Ever wondered how you could save up to 16% on your next race time?
To put that into perspective 16% on a 4 hour marathon you're looking around 38 minutes... for a 3 hour marathon it's about 28 minutes ... if my maths is any good at this time of day!?
Bearing in mind that's with the exact same fitness you have RIGHT NOW?
The 16% is the increase in my heart rate from running in my usual positioning to running hunched over and with a weak hip position and also a less efficient foot strike. How much difference will that 16% lower heart rate make to your race time?
Perhaps it's not quite so much as 16% of actual time?
I would argue it could be more! By running in that position I was putting a lot more force into my quads and making my calves work harder... at the same time the upper body being slightly hunched meant that I couldn't take such deep breaths and as time goes on it only gets harder.
If you're technique is already pretty good then the difference again might not be so great but I know in some of my races even 5 minutes would have made the difference in finish positions.
There are many other factors that could be affecting you're race right now too, just one area you should definitely check out though!
